Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect in counseling sessions?

Each session is 50 minutes long. The first includes a one-time initial assessment where I will provide a space for us to collaborate and give you an opportunity to share your story— your family background, presenting concerns, and treatment goals. This  will provide important information that will inform what sessions will look like moving forward. Both the caregiver(s) and child/teen are present for this.

In the following sessions, I will meet one-on-one with the child/ teen to begin working towards treatment goals together. These sessions will often incorporate play, expressive arts, talk therapy, and more depending on the client’s unique goals. Parents/ caregivers are encouraged to be involved throughout the process (often through regular collaborations and sessions with the therapist every 4-6 weeks) when possible.

What should I bring to my first session?

There will be some general intake forms that need to be completed online before your first session. Aside from this, you do not need to bring anything specific to your first session.

How long will I be in therapy?

The length of therapy is different for every person and depends on their own unique goals and circumstances. Some clients find they only need short-term therapy to help achieve a specific goal. Others find long-term therapy to be more beneficial and necessary. The duration of your treatment is something I encourage you to have an active voice in determining. Please know that you may end your services at any point and that I fully support clients advocating for themselves.

Do you accept insurance?

I am not currently paneled with any insurance companies and only accept private pay (cash/ check/ credit card). Because I am currently working towards state licensure, my private pay fee is lower than most licensed clinicians. It is my hope that this makes mental health services more accessible to families. If you are unable to pay the regular $75 fee per session, please inquire about limited sliding scale spots I offer.

What is your cancellation/ no-show policy?

I require 24-hours notice for cancellations. There is a $40 no-show fee or late cancellation fee (for cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice). However, I know that life happens and things often come up that are out of our control, so if you are sick, have an emergency, etc., please communicate that with me and you will not be charged.
